NET are produced by the body to fight infections but have also been linked to side effects caused by the body's immune system. Treatment with tamoxifen increases the production of NETs. This study may help researchers determine if the increased number of NETs in the body has a damaging effect in breast cancer.","PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:\n\nI. To examine the effect of long-term tamoxifen (TAM) treatment on excessive NET formation in breast cancer patients.\n\nSECONDARY OBJECTIVES:\n\nI. To understand the molecular mechanisms of tamoxifen-induced NET formation in breast cancer patients by examining the effect of long-term TAM treatment on the NET-induced factors.\n\nII. To correlate the extend of NET formation with clinical data on tamoxifen resistance, drug side-effects, cancer metastasis and comorbidities.\n\nEXPLORATORY OBJECTIVE:\n\nI. It is not a treatment study, but rather looks at existing treatments and their effects.","completed","Observational Study of Neutrophil Traps in Breast Cancer Patients Taking Tamoxifen","This study is looking at how tamoxifen, a common breast cancer treatment, affects the body's production of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). NETs are usually made to fight infections, but they might also be linked to side effects and how breast cancer progresses. Researchers will collect blood samples from women with breast cancer who are taking tamoxifen, both before and after menopause, and review their medical records.
