The main questions it aims to answer are:

1. Is this financial psycho-oncology intervention feasible, acceptable, and appropriate for patients with cancer experiencing financial hardship?
2. How can we refine the financial psycho-oncology intervention to best address financial distress for patients with cancer experiencing financial hardship?

Patients enrolled in the intervention will receive 2, 60-minute long, finance-specific psycho-oncology sessions per month over the course of 3 months, for a total of 6 sessions over the course of the intervention. Patients will complete surveys during intervention enrollment and after intervention completion to assess secondary outcomes of financial hardship, psychological distress, stress, and anxiety. Individuals who consent to the financial psycho-oncology intervention will also be invited to participate in a 30-minute semi-structured interview to explore their perceptions of and experiences with the financial psycho-oncology intervention, including concepts of participation and engagement, relevance and acceptability, content and understanding, logistics and practicality, and potential impact.",[17,18,19],"Cancer","Financial Hardship","Psychological Distress",[],"INTERVENTIONAL","HEALTH_SERVICES_RESEARCH",[24],"NA
20,"ESTIMATED",[29
"BEHAVIORAL","Financial psycho-oncology intervention","Program which integrates emotional support, coping strategies, and financial psychoeducation to enhance patients' capacity to cope with both their emotional and financial burdens due to cancer.",[34],"Patients receiving financial psycho-oncology intervention",[36,40,43
"Recruitment as a measure of feasibility","50% of contacted patients consenting to participate","From enrollment to the end of the financial psycho-oncology intervention at 3 months
"Retention as a measure of feasibility","70% of consenting patients completing the program per protocol
"Completion as a measure of feasibility","<15% missing survey data",[47,50,53,56,59
"Change in Financial hardship","as measured by COmprehensive Score for financial Toxicity (COST)
"Change in Psychological distress","as measured by National Comprehensive Cancer Network Distress Thermometer and Problem List
"Change in Perceived stress","as measured by Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10)
"Change in Anxiety","as measured by PROMIS Emotional Distress - Anxiety - Short Form 4
"Change in Depression","as measured by PROMIS Emotional Distress - Depression - Short Form 4","ALL","18 Years",false
[67],"Adult patients with cancer receiving treatment at the UAB Medical Oncology and/or UAB Supportive Care clinics",[69,70,71],"non-English speakers","patients with non-melanoma skin cancers","patients with dementia/cognitive impairments","Inclusion Criteria:

* Adult patients with cancer receiving treatment at the UAB Medical Oncology and/or UAB Supportive Care clinics

Exclusion Criteria:

* non-English speakers
* patients with non-melanoma skin cancers
* patients with dementia/cognitive impairments",[74,75],"ADULT","OLDER_ADULT",[77
"Birmingham","Alabama","35233","United States",[83,88
"Hayden Reeves","CONTACT","205-996-4109","haydenreeves@uabmc.edu
Courtney Williams, DrPH","PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR
33.52066,-86.80249,[95
[97
[],[
[102],"Malignant Neoplasm",[
true
"This is an interventional study with a planned enrollment of 20 participants. It offers emotional support, ways to cope, and education about managing finances. The main goal is to see if this program is practical, helpful, and well-received by cancer patients who are struggling financially. Researchers also want to learn how to make the program even better. They plan to enroll about 20 adult patients who are receiving cancer treatment at UAB Medical Oncology or Supportive Care clinics.
