The study goal is to see if having this medication available helps to prevent return emergency department visits for recurrent or persistent symptoms.","Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome is a relatively new syndrome characterized by nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain in the setting of excessive cannabis use. This clinical entity has become increasingly prevalent as the concentration of THC has increased in marijuana products over the past several decades. The symptoms have been treated successfully with several medications however the most efficacious appears to be dopamine antagonists such as haloperidol and droperidol. These dopamine antagonists have been used safely and successfully in the inpatient and emergency department settings to decrease the frequency and intensity of nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain in patients suffering from cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. We plan to evaluate haloperidol, a dopamine antagonist available as an oral formulation, as an option for outpatient management of these symptoms.",[18],"Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome",[20,21,22,23],"chs","cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome","haldol","haloperidol","INTERVENTIONAL","TREATMENT",[27],"EARLY_PHASE1",{"count":29,"type":30},100,"ESTIMATED",[32],{"type":33,"name":34,"description":35,"armGroupLabels":36},"DRUG","Haloperidol","This intervention involves providing patients an outpatient prescription for as needed haloperidol to attempt to control symptoms of cannabinoid hyperemesis and to attempt to prevent return to the emergency department for that reason.",[37],"Patients who will receive haloperidol",[39],{"measure":40,"description":41,"timeFrame":42},"Rate of return to the emergency department","We plan to measure the percentage of people who return to the emergency department for recurrence of symptoms attributable to cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome","1 month",[44,47],{"measure":45,"description":46,"timeFrame":42},"Improvement in symptoms","We plan to report patient reported improvement in symptoms attributable to cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome",{"measure":48,"description":49,"timeFrame":42},"Medication side effects","We plan to report the rate of patient reported side effects that are considered attributable to cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome","ALL","18 Years",null,true,{"inclusion":55,"exclusion":57,"raw_text":58},[56],"Patients who meet ROME-4 diagnostic criteria for cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome",[],"Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patients who meet ROME-4 diagnostic criteria for cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\nAlready on dopamine agonist\u002Fantagonist therapy for another condition Parkinson's disease Lewy body dementia Men with QTc \\> 450 Women with QTc \\> 460 Patients with documented allergy to haloperidol Patients with known functional prolactinomas Patients who are breastfeeding Patients under the age of 18 Patients who are pregnant Patients who are in the prison system Patients who are unable to consent",[60,61],"ADULT","OLDER_ADULT",[63],{"facility":64,"city":65,"state":66,"zip":67,"country":68,"contacts":69,"geoPoint":89},"University of Illinois Hospital","Chicago","Illinois","60612","United States",[70,75,79,81,82,85,87],{"name":71,"role":72,"phone":73,"email":74},"Mason A Bartman, MD","CONTACT","8178972205","mbartman@uic.edu",{"name":76,"role":72,"phone":77,"email":78},"Wesley Eilbert, MD","6302944225","weilbert@uic.edu",{"name":71,"role":80},"PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",{"name":76,"role":80},{"name":83,"role":84},"Shaveta Khosla, Khosla","SUB_INVESTIGATOR",{"name":86,"role":84},"Drew Posen, PharmD",{"name":88,"role":84},"Urvi Dubey, BS",{"lat":90,"lon":91},41.85003,-87.65005,[93,94],{"name":71,"role":72,"phone":73,"email":74},{"name":76,"role":72,"phone":77,"email":78},[96],{"name":76,"affiliation":97,"role":80},"University of Illinois Health",[],[],{"nct_id":4,"conditions":101,"biomarkers":102},[18],[],{"nct_id":4,"found":53,"summary":104,"prompt_version":114},{"design":105,"status":106,"heading":107,"summary":108,"follow_up":109,"word_count":110,"commitments":111,"compensation":112,"drugs_mentioned":113},"This is an interventional study planning to enroll 100 participants. CHS is a condition causing severe nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain in people who use cannabis. If you are diagnosed with CHS in the emergency department and are safe to go home, you might receive a prescription for haloperidol to use as needed. The main goal is to see if having this medication at home prevents you from needing to come back to the emergency department for your symptoms. We are looking for about 100 participants aged 18 and older who meet specific diagnostic criteria for CHS.","Participants will be followed for 1 month to measure the rate of return to the emergency department.",112,"Not specified in the trial record.","Not stated in the trial record.",[34],"v2"]
