Esophageal Cancer Risk Registry
This study aims to find markers in your blood and tissue that could help us understand the risk factors for developing and progressing esophageal cancer (cancer of the tube connecting your throat to your stomach). We are collecting medical history, blood, and tissue samples from patients with esophageal disorders. By identifying genetic and lifestyle risk factors, we hope to improve early detection and prevention of esophageal cancer. You may be eligible if you are 18 or older and have known or suspected esophageal cancer, Barrett's metaplasia (a condition that can lead to cancer), symptomatic GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, or chronic heartburn), achalasia (a swallowing disorder), or a hiatal hernia (when part of your stomach pushes through your diaphragm). This is an observational study, meaning we are collecting information without giving you a specific treatment. We plan to enroll 7000 participants.
