Understanding Heart Disease in Patients with Advanced Heart Failure
This study aims to learn more about advanced heart disease by collecting tissue and blood samples from patients with congestive heart failure (when the heart can't pump enough blood). You might be able to join if you are over 18 and have heart failure, and are having either an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device, a mechanical pump that helps the heart) implanted or a heart transplant. Older children (13-18 years old) with heart failure who are large enough for an LVAD may also participate. Researchers will look at changes in how well your heart muscle works (myocardial function) at the beginning of the study and again after 3 months. This study is a registry, meaning it collects and stores information, and does not involve new treatments or procedures.
- Study design
- This is an observational registry study, meaning it collects data without testing new treatments. It plans to enroll 300 participants.
- What's involved
- Blood samples will be taken during procedures or when other lab work is done. Tissue samples will be collected during LVAD implantation, using only tissue that is already being removed.
- Compensation
- Not stated in the trial record.
- Follow-up
- Your heart function will be measured at the beginning of the study and again after 3 months.

What this trial measures
- Change in myocardial functionbaseline and 3 months
Myocardial function, measured by left ventricular ejection fraction, will be assessed pre-LVAD implant (baseline) and compared with myocardial function assessed at 3 months post-LVAD implant
