Understanding Glucose Metabolism After Gastric Bypass Surgery

This study aims to understand how gastric bypass surgery improves the body's ability to handle sugar (glucose metabolism). Researchers believe that changes in the gut after surgery lead to more "incretin" hormones, which help the body make more insulin. You might be able to join if you are 18-65 years old, had gastric bypass surgery, and either have healthy blood sugar or experience low blood sugar (recurrent hypoglycemia) after surgery. Participants will receive exendin-(9-39) during tests to measure insulin and other hormone levels after meals. The study will track these levels for up to one year to see how much GLP-1 (a type of incretin) contributes to insulin production. The current recruitment status is unclear.
