This study is looking at new ways to quickly identify germs (like bacteria or fungi) and how resistant they are to antibiotics in patients who come to the emergency room with suspected infections. They will compare the results from these rapid tests to standard lab cultures to see how accurate and fast they are. You might be able to join if you are an adult (18 or older) with signs of a serious body-wide infection (SIRS, or Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome), and have blood or other body fluid samples collected for infection testing. The goal is to see if these rapid tests can quickly and accurately identify infections, which could help doctors treat patients more effectively.

    Frozen microbial specimens will be transported to an off site laboratory for analysis with the GeneZ or other point of care or rapid diagnostic technique or device, with investigators blinded to the final culture results of the specimen - positive or negative.
