Mitochondrial Transplantation for Pediatric Heart Complications

This study is looking at a treatment called autologous mitochondria transplantation for children under 18 who are on ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation, a life support machine for heart and lung failure) and have concerns about heart damage from lack of blood flow (ischemic injury). The treatment involves taking mitochondria (parts of your cells that produce energy) from your own muscle and injecting them into your heart. Researchers want to see if this treatment is safe, specifically by tracking any serious side effects for one week after the procedure. The study plans to enroll 16 participants and its current status is unclear.

Study design
This is an interventional study with a planned enrollment of 16 participants. It is not specified if this is a randomized or single-arm study.
What's involved
Mitochondria will be collected from your skeletal muscle during a clinically indicated surgery or cardiac catheterization, and then injected into your heart. The study will track severe adverse events for one week.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Safety will be measured at 1 week after the intervention.
