Study for Cardiovascular and Lifestyle Risk Factors in Prostate Cancer Patients

This study is for men with prostate cancer to understand and improve their heart health. It tests different ways to lower the risk of heart problems like heart attacks and strokes. You might receive advice on healthy eating (Nutrition), exercise, and quitting smoking (Smoking cessation). You could also be prescribed medications like statins (such as Simvastatin, Atorvastatin, Rosuvastatin, Pravastatin) to help with cholesterol, or ACE inhibitors to help with blood pressure. The study is looking for men aged 45 and older who have a recent prostate cancer diagnosis or are starting Androgen Deprivation Therapy (a common prostate cancer treatment). We will measure how well these approaches help control cholesterol and blood pressure, and prevent serious heart events over 3-5 years.

Study design
This study plans to enroll 5000 men. It includes two parts: one that observes men with prostate cancer (RADICAL PC1) and another that tests specific interventions (RADICAL PC2).

Inclusion

new (i.e. the diagnosis was made within 1 year of the enrolment visit) or
treated with Androgen Deprivation Therapy for the first time within 6 months prior to the enrolment visit, or
to be treated with Androgen Deprivation Therapy for the first time within 1 month after the enrolment visit
