Long-Term Outcomes of Rehabilitation for Traumatic Brain Injury and Stroke

This observational study is looking at the long-term effects of post-acute rehabilitation (recovery care after a serious injury) for people who have had a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or a stroke. Researchers want to understand how rehabilitation impacts your job status, thinking abilities, and daily functioning over many years. They will also see if the benefits of rehabilitation last after you leave a program. You can join if you've had a TBI or stroke, are at least 18 years old, and you or your caregiver speak English. You cannot join if you had a degenerative neurological disease or major psychosis before your injury. The study is currently unclear about its recruitment status.

Study design
This is an observational study involving 240 participants. Researchers will compare 120 patients who received comprehensive rehabilitation with 120 patients who received limited or no rehabilitation.
What's involved
You will be contacted at least 1 year after discharge from rehabilitation, and then every two years for up to 10 years. These contacts will likely be phone interviews, but may be in-person.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Participants will be followed for a total period of 10 years after discharge from rehabilitation.
