Investigating Epilepsy: Screening and Evaluation

This observational study aims to learn more about seizures and find better ways to treat people with epilepsy, especially those whose seizures don't respond well to medicine (drug-resistant epilepsy). Researchers will screen and evaluate people with diagnosed or suspected epilepsy to gather information. This information will help other NIH (National Institutes of Health) studies find eligible participants and will also be used to understand the natural course of epilepsy over time. There are no specific interventions (treatments) being tested in this study. The main goal is to screen and characterize patients for other epilepsy-related research over a five-year period. You might be able to join if you are 8 years or older and have known or suspected epilepsy.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Age 8 years or older
Known or suspected diagnosis of epilepsy
Ability to give informed consent or have a legally authorized representative able to give consent (for adults without consent capacity) or parent/guardian able to provide informed consent (for a child)
If unable to give informed consent, ability to give verbal assent

Exclusion

Patients with unstable medical conditions that, in the opinion of the investigators, makes participation unsafe, or who, in the opinion of the investigators may be unable to comply with the protocol
Patients who are unable to travel to the NIH
