Studying Hormones, Aging, and Alzheimer's in Women
This study is looking at how ovarian hormones might be linked to aging and the risk of Alzheimer's disease in women. Researchers will use special brain scans called PET imaging with 18-F-Flortaucipir and Pittsburgh compound-B to measure changes in the brain related to Alzheimer's. You may be eligible if you are a woman aged 60 or older who has previously participated in this study, are more than six months past chemotherapy or major surgery, and can sign an informed consent. The study aims to enroll 614 women. The success of the study will be measured by the results of these brain scans, taken on a single day. The current recruitment status is unclear.
- Study design
- This interventional study plans to enroll 614 women. It is not specified if it is randomized or blinded.
- What's involved
- If you participate at Mayo Clinic Rochester, you will have 2-3 clinic visits for cognitive testing, physical function tests, questionnaires, a blood draw, and brain imaging (MRI, β-amyloid PET, and tau PET). If you participate at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, you will have 1-3 clinic visits for physical function testing and brain imaging (MRI, β-amyloid PET, and tau PET).
- Compensation
- Not stated in the trial record.
- Follow-up
- The primary endpoints, 18F-Flortaucipir PET imaging and Pittsburgh compound-B PET imaging, are measured at 1 day.
