Evaluating MuSICCA for Children with Disorders of Consciousness

This study is evaluating a new tool called the Music therapy Sensory Instrument for Cognition, Consciousness and Awareness (MuSICCA) for children and young people (ages 2-18) who have a disorder of consciousness (DOC). DOCs are conditions like vegetative state or minimally conscious state that last a long time. The MuSICCA uses music therapy to help measure a child's awareness. Researchers want to see if MuSICCA is accurate and useful for doctors, similar to how a related tool works for adults. You may be able to participate if you are between 2 and 18 years old, have a DOC, and do not have certain conditions like severe hearing or vision problems, or frequent seizures. The study aims to enroll 80 participants.

Study design
This is an observational study, meaning it looks at how things are without giving a specific treatment. It will involve 80 participants and compare the MuSICCA to other standard assessments.
What's involved
Participants will undergo assessments using the MuSICCA and other measures like the Coma Recovery Scale - Revised. The Coma Recovery Scale - Revised is measured at 1 day, and the MuSICCA is measured at 2 weeks.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
The primary assessments for this study are measured at 1 day and 2 weeks.
