Understanding Neutrophils in Sepsis Patients

This research study aims to understand more about neutrophils, a type of white blood cell, in patients with sepsis. Sepsis is a serious infection that can affect many parts of the body. While neutrophils help fight germs, they can also cause harm, especially to the lungs, in people with sepsis. Researchers will look at the characteristics of neutrophils found in the blood and in secretions from the breathing tubes of sepsis patients in the ICU. By learning how these cells change during sepsis, doctors hope to develop new treatments to prevent them from causing harm. This study is looking for 75 participants, including children and adults aged 2 to 50 years old, who are either sepsis patients with a breathing tube or healthy individuals undergoing elective surgery.
