Pediatric Ovarian Tissue Banking Study

This study is collecting samples of ovarian tissue from girls and young women (ages 0-18) who are having surgery on their ovaries. The tissue samples are taken from what would normally be discarded during procedures like oophorectomy (removal of an ovary due to torsion, benign or malignant cysts) or ovarian cystectomy (removal of an ovarian cyst). The goal is to create an "ovarian tissue library" to help researchers understand how common ovarian conditions affect the number and quality of ovarian follicles (tiny sacs that hold eggs) and the ovary's potential for future reproduction. This study aims to enroll 100 participants.

    The primary purpose of this study is analyzing the histologically ovarian tissue obtained surgically due to different ovarian pathologies. The tissue will be stained and follicles of varying stages will be counted and compared for different patient ages and ovarian pathologies. The extra-cellular matrix will also be stained and compared between different patient ages and ovarian pathologies.
