This study is looking at how changes in your blood sugar levels (glucose variability) might be connected to your thinking abilities (cognitive function) and how well you perform daily activities (functional status) if you have prediabetes. Researchers want to see if even before diabetes develops, these blood sugar changes affect your brain and daily life. You would wear a Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (CGMS), a small device that measures your glucose levels for 10 days. The study will measure your executive functioning, memory, and language skills after this 10-day period. This study is for people aged 50 and older with prediabetes, who have at least an 8th-grade education. People with diagnosed type 1 or type 2 diabetes, or those taking diabetes medications, cannot participate. The current status of this study is unclear.

Inclusion

Aged 50 years and older
At least 8th grade education

Exclusion

Diagnosed type 1 or type 2 diabetes
Current use of mediation for diabetes (oral hypoglycemic agents, insulin), or with diabetic properties (e.g., steroids)
Chronic disorders (cardiovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease, stroke, transient ischemic attack, chronic kidney disease, past year cancer)
Neurological disorders (e.g., Parkinson's, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis)
History of dementia or suspected dementia
Known HIV
Serious mental illness, psychosis, or use of psychotropic medication
Heavy alcohol use
