Understanding Brown and White Adipose Tissue

This study aims to understand the differences between brown fat and white fat in humans. Brown fat helps produce heat and regulate your body's energy use, while white fat stores extra calories. Researchers will collect samples of your fat tissue through a fat biopsy (a small surgical procedure to remove tissue) and blood samples to analyze various markers related to fat function and insulin resistance. They will also analyze your DNA to find genetic variations linked to fat characteristics. The goal is to learn how fat tissue regulates your body's metabolism and contributes to metabolic diseases like type 2 diabetes. This knowledge could help develop new treatments and personalized medicine in the future. This study is currently recruiting healthy participants aged 18 to 75 who are already scheduled for a procedure at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
