Observational Study on Triglycerides and Newborn Fat

This study aims to understand how triglyceride levels (a type of fat in your blood) during pregnancy affect the amount of fat a newborn baby has. Researchers believe that high triglyceride levels, rather than blood sugar, might be a strong predictor of a baby's total fat and liver fat. You may be able to join if you are pregnant, less than 16 weeks along, between 21-39 years old, and have a pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) between 28-39 kg/m2. You cannot join if you have diabetes, a history of gestational diabetes, or certain other health conditions. The study will measure your triglyceride and glucose levels at home during pregnancy. After birth, your baby's fat will be measured using special equipment.

Pregnant women less than 16 weeks gestational age

Exclusion

Pre-gestational diabetes or prediabetes
History of gestational diabetes
History of pre-eclampsia, spontaneous pre-term delivery, or gestational hypertension \<34wks
