Intestinal Microbiota in Stem Cell Transplant

This study is looking at how the bacteria in your gut (intestinal microbiota) change after a stem cell transplant (SCT). Researchers want to understand if the antibiotics you receive during your transplant admission affect these gut bacteria and if those changes are linked to complications. They will collect stool samples at different times, including before your transplant, on the day of transplant, and at various points afterward, up to six months post-transplant. You can join if you are between 18 and 80 years old and are having an allogeneic or autologous SCT for blood cancers or bone marrow failure. The study aims to see how much your gut bacteria change over time.

Study design
This is an observational study planning to enroll 255 participants. It is not specified if it is randomized or blinded.
What's involved
You would provide stool samples at several time points: before transplant, on transplant day, about 7-10 days after transplant, at your first BMT outpatient clinic visit, if you develop GVHD, and when you recover from GVHD.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Your changes in gut bacteria will be measured up to 6 months after your stem cell transplant.
