Localizing Epileptic Networks Using MRI and iEEG

This study is looking for people with epilepsy that hasn't responded to medication, especially those with suspected temporal lobe epilepsy, who are already planning to have intracranial EEG (iEEG) placement. Researchers are using different types of MRI scans (3T and 7T Magnetic Resonance Imaging) along with iEEG recordings to understand how epilepsy networks work in the brain. The goal is to find better ways to use non-invasive imaging to predict how well epilepsy surgery will work and to guide where electrodes are placed for iEEG. This could lead to less invasive and more targeted treatments for epilepsy. The study is currently unclear on its recruitment status and plans to enroll 290 participants.

Inclusion

Patients with medication-refractory epilepsy
Planned intracranial EEG (IEEG) placement
Hypothesized to have temporal lobe epilepsy

Exclusion

Contraindication to 3T MRI (e.g. metal implants or claustrophobia), clinical features that typically preclude the use of IEEG (e.g. pregnancy), prior intracranial surgery or device, and IEEG findings that are non-diagnostic (e.g. seizure onset zone(s) not identified)
