Pain Relief After Thumb Osteoarthritis Surgery: Ibuprofen & Acetaminophen vs. Oxycodone

This study is looking at pain relief after surgery for thumb osteoarthritis (a type of arthritis at the base of the thumb). Typically, strong pain medications called opioids, like oxycodone, are used after this surgery. However, doctors are looking for ways to reduce opioid use because they can be addictive. This study compares a combination of non-opioid medications, ibuprofen and acetaminophen, to oxycodone for managing pain in the first 30 days after surgery. You may be able to join if you are 45 or older, having trapeziectomy surgery for thumb osteoarthritis, and can speak English. The study will measure how much medication you use and your daily pain levels to see which treatment works best. The current recruitment status is unclear.
