Liquid Biopsy for Thyroid Cancer Diagnostics

This study aims to develop new ways to diagnose thyroid cancer using "liquid biopsies" (blood samples) and tissue samples from surgery. Researchers hope to find a less invasive way to detect thyroid cancer compared to traditional biopsies. By analyzing these samples, they also want to learn how to tell the difference between non-cancerous growths and thyroid cancer, and to find high-risk genetic changes that can help guide treatment. The study will look at how well the molecular profile (genetic makeup) of tiny particles from the thyroid, called extracellular vesicles, can predict thyroid cancer. You may be able to join if you are 18 or older and are having thyroid surgery for a suspicious nodule or thyroid cancer. The study is currently enrolling 250 participants.

Study design
This is an observational study with a planned enrollment of 250 participants. It is not specified if this is a randomized or blinded study.
What's involved
You would provide blood samples on the day of surgery and again about 4-6 weeks after surgery. If you have additional treatment with radioactive iodine, another blood sample will be collected. Tissue samples from your thyroid surgery will also be collected, and your medical records will be reviewed.

Patients with concurrent malignancy
