Assessing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome with Shearwave Elastography

This study is testing a special type of ultrasound called Shearwave Elastography (SWE) to see if it can help detect stiffness problems in the wrist for people with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. You might be able to join if you are 18 or older, have wrist pain on one side, and are scheduled for a corticosteroid injection or surgery for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The study hopes to show that SWE measurements match up with how severe your symptoms are, your daily function, and results from nerve tests. This study is currently unclear on its recruitment status and plans to enroll 20 participants.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Male and female volunteers.
Age ≥ 18 years old.
Having unilateral symptom of wrist pain
Scheduled for corticosteroid injection or surgery

Exclusion

Individuals less than 18 years of age.
Prior surgery.
People considered in "vulnerable" populations.
Having bilateral symptoms

What this trial measures

  • Evaluate the treatment response by shear wave elastography (SWE)First 3 months

    Evaluate the treatment response to surgical decompression or corticosteroid injection, using quantitative SWE and correlate the results to repeated patient reported outcomes with Boston CTQ, and objective clinical improvement with Semmes-Weinstein monofilament evaluation for recovery of sensibility, and grip and lateral pinch strength.
