Enoxaparin for Preventing Blood Clots in Children with Central Venous Catheters

This study, called the CRETE Studies, is looking at whether a medicine called enoxaparin can help prevent blood clots (Deep Venous Thrombosis or DVT) in children who have a central venous catheter (CVC) inserted. A CVC is a tube placed into a large vein, often in the neck or groin. Enoxaparin is a blood thinner that works by affecting certain proteins in the blood to prevent clots. The study aims to understand if enoxaparin works differently in children of different ages. Children from birth to 17 years old can join if they are getting a CVC in their internal jugular or femoral vein and have not had a blood clot in that area recently or are not already taking blood thinners. The main goal is to see how many children develop a CVC-associated DVT (CADVT) up to the time the CVC is removed, or for a maximum of 28 days. The current status of this study is unclear.
