Structured Exercise Program for Kidney Transplant Recipients

This study is testing if a structured exercise program, called SPaRKT, can help older adults who are waiting for a kidney transplant. Researchers want to see if this program can improve physical ability before and after transplantation. You might receive weekly coaching, or weekly coaching with a caregiver, or usual care. The study is looking for people aged 50 and older who are on dialysis, have a living kidney donor, and have some physical limitations (SPPB score of 10 or less). The main goals are to see how much your physical performance (Short Physical Performance Battery or SPPB) and daily step count change over time. The study is currently unclear about its recruitment status.

Study design
This is a randomized clinical trial with 72 participants. It compares two types of structured exercise programs to usual care.

    The Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) is a composite score ranging from 0-12, with three tests which measure: 1) gait speed, 2) timed sit to stand, and 3) balance. Each individual component can be scored from 0-4 with a total score of 0-12, with higher numbers representing better physical performance.
