Virtual Reality for Neuropathic Pain in Spinal Cord Injury
This study is looking into whether playing virtual reality (VR) walking games can help reduce neuropathic pain (nerve pain, often described as sharp, burning, or electric) in adults with chronic spinal cord injury (SCI). You would wear a special headset to see virtual legs and arms in a virtual world. The study aims to see if this VR experience, by creating the "illusion" of walking, can help correct a mismatch between what your brain expects and what your body is doing, which scientists believe contributes to neuropathic pain. The main goal is to measure changes in your pain intensity over up to 18 months. This study is currently recruiting 250 participants and is open to individuals aged 18 and older with complete SCI (ASIA A classification) who experience daily neuropathic pain of at least 4 out of 10 for three or more months.
