Rhythmic Light Therapy for Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Disease

This study is testing different types of light therapy for people with mild cognitive impairment or mild Alzheimer's disease. You would be randomly assigned to one of four groups: a Rhythmic Light (40 hertz flicker) or a Placebo Rhythmic Light (random flicker), each delivered with either Circadian-Effective Light (narrowband blue light) or Placebo Light (narrowband red light). To join, you need to be diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment or mild Alzheimer's, have sleep problems, and live at home or in an assisted living facility. The main goal is to see how these light therapies affect your cognition, measured by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) at different times during the study. Study design

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Participants must be diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment or mild Alzheimer's disease, as defined by a Montreal Cognitive Assessment score between 17 and 25;
Have sleep disturbance indicated by a score \>5 on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index
Participants must reside in their homes, independent living, or assisted living facilities

Exclusion

Participants taking sleep medication
Residence in a skilled nursing facility or long-term care
Obstructing cataracts, macular degeneration, and blindness
Severe sleep apnea or restless leg syndrome
History of severe epilepsy
