Renal Denervation and Catheter Ablation for Persistent Atrial Fibrillation

This study is looking at whether adding renal artery denervation (RDN) to a standard procedure called pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) can better treat persistent atrial fibrillation (AF). PVI is a common treatment for AF where doctors use cryo energy (extreme cold) to block faulty electrical signals in the heart. RDN involves using radiofrequency (RF) energy to treat nerves in the kidney arteries. The study aims to see if combining RDN with PVI is more effective than PVI alone for people with AF who either don't have high blood pressure or whose blood pressure is well-controlled with medication. You might be able to join if you are over 18, have symptomatic persistent AF, and meet certain blood pressure criteria. The main goal is to measure how much AF you experience one year after treatment. The study is currently recruiting about 50 participants.

Study design
This is a randomized controlled pilot trial, meaning participants will be randomly assigned to receive either PVI alone or PVI plus RDN. It plans to enroll about 50 participants.
What's involved
Not specified in the trial record.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Participants will be followed for at least one year to measure AF burden.
