Evaluating a Discharge Plan for Preterm Infants with Lung Disease

This study is looking at how well a new set of recommendations works for helping preterm infants with lung disease (bronchopulmonary dysplasia or BPD) go home from the hospital. Researchers developed these recommendations to improve the transition and ongoing care for these babies. The study will observe how these recommendations are put into practice at Boston Children's Hospital and other nearby NICUs. They will look at things like how often babies attend follow-up appointments, how much healthcare they use, and what parents think about the new plan. You may be able to join if your baby was born before 32 weeks and has at least mild BPD. The study aims to enroll about 50 infants.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Preterm infants born \<32 weeks with at least mild BPD, defined as 28 days of respiratory support after birth.
Efforts will be made to include a mix of infants with mild, moderate, and severe BPD, including infants discharged on oxygen.

Exclusion

Discharge to a location other than home.
Infants with other congenital disease (cardiac, genetic, neurological) thought to contribute significantly to their respiratory disease.
