This study is looking at whether a common cholesterol-lowering medication, atorvastatin (10 mg daily), can help reduce inflammation in people with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA is a condition where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. Researchers believe atorvastatin might improve the health of blood vessel linings (endothelium) in OSA patients, even those using CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), which is a standard treatment. You could be eligible if you are 18 or older and have been newly diagnosed with OSA, meaning you haven't used CPAP before. The study will measure specific markers in your blood, like Angiopoietin-2, and changes in cell interactions after 4 weeks to see if atorvastatin is effective. Study design

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Aged ≥18 years
Newly diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who were never treated with CPAP. OSA is defined as apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) ≥5 events/hour of sleep.

Exclusion

A history of coronary artery disease, heart failure, stroke, diabetes, malignancy, chronic pulmonary, kidney or rheumatologic disease, muscle pain/fatigue, smoking within the past 5 years
Regular use of any medications
  • Circulating levels of Angiopoietin-2 after 4 weeks of atorvastatin vs. placebo therapy4 weeks post-treatment
