INDICT Study: Improving Traumatic Brain Injury Treatment

This study, called INDICT, is looking at new ways to treat severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). If you or a loved one has had a severe TBI and needs emergency surgery within 72 hours, you might be able to join. The study will use a diagnostic test called Full-band Electrocorticography to monitor brain activity for something called 'spreading depolarizations' (a type of brain wave that can cause damage). Based on these readings, a Treatment Algorithm will guide doctors on how to adjust care to prevent these depolarizations. The main goal is to see how well this approach reduces the number of spreading depolarizations during your time in intensive care, up to two weeks after the injury. The study is currently unclear on its recruitment status and plans to enroll 72 participants.
