Observational Study of Acute Normovolemic Hemodilution and Kidney Injury
This study is looking at how a blood conservation technique called Acute Normovolemic Hemodilution (ANH) affects kidney injury during heart surgery. ANH involves taking out some of your blood before surgery and giving it back afterward to reduce bleeding and the need for blood transfusions. Researchers will compare patients who receive ANH to those who don't. The study will measure specific markers in your urine, NGAL and KIM-1, 24 hours after surgery to see if ANH helps prevent acute kidney injury. You may be able to join if you are between 18 and 70 years old, weigh over 70kg, have a hemoglobin level above 12 g/dL, and are having elective coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
