Robotic Rehabilitation for Stroke Survivors

This study is looking at how a robotic device called SPINDLE can help adults who have had a chronic stroke (a stroke that happened a while ago) and still have difficulty with their arm and hand movements. The SPINDLE device will assist or resist your arm movements as you practice everyday tasks, like those you do in daily life. Researchers want to see if using SPINDLE improves your arm movement, your ability to do daily tasks, and how your muscles activate. This is a pilot study, meaning it's an early look at how well this robotic therapy works. You can join if you are an adult with chronic stroke who has lost some upper limb function and can understand instructions. The study status is currently unclear.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Adults with chronic stroke, which affected their upper limb motor functions
Adults could able to understand the verbal cues during the training

Exclusion

Adults with chronic stroke, who did not lose their upper limb motor functions
  • Kinematic change of the upper limb during ADLsimmediately after the intervention

    The max and range of motion of shoulder, elbow, and wrist joint for each task

  • Score of activities of daily living(ADL) tasksimmediately after the intervention

    We will use ARM-ULA standard score sheet to measure the performance of ADLs

  • Muscle activation change of the upper limb during ADLsimmediately after the intervention

    The subject will be asked to perform activities of daily living tasks with the passive SPINDLE. Upper limb range of motion and muscle activation will be quantified.
