Intravenous Caffeine and Atrial Fibrillation Study

This study is looking at how intravenous (IV) caffeine affects the electrical properties of the heart in people who have Atrial Fibrillation (AF), a type of irregular heartbeat. Researchers want to understand if caffeine makes AF more likely to happen. You would receive either IV caffeine or a placebo (a substance with no active medicine, like sugar water) during a procedure for your AF. The study aims to see how many participants experience AF induction (when AF is triggered) within one day. This study is for adults aged 21 to 90 who have new or recent AF and are having an AF ablation procedure. The current status of the study is unclear.

Study design
This is a multi-center, randomized, double-blinded study comparing intravenous caffeine to a placebo. It plans to enroll 100 participants.
What's involved
You would receive an intravenous infusion of either caffeine or a placebo during an Atrial Fibrillation ablation procedure.
Compensation
Not stated in the trial record.
Follow-up
Participants will be monitored for Atrial Fibrillation induction for one day after the intervention.

Induction of Atrial fibrillation will be attempted by pacing and isoproterenol infusion following study drug infusion. The ability to induce atrial fibrillation (yes or no) will be recorded as the primary outcome.
