Project Dulce for Arab Americans With Type 2 Diabetes
This study is looking at a program called Project Dulce + Dulce Digital for Arab Americans with type 2 diabetes. This program is a 5-week group education course, led by a peer educator in Arabic, that teaches you about managing your diabetes. It also includes a 3-month text messaging program. To join, you must be an Arab American adult with type 2 diabetes, have an HbA1c (a measure of blood sugar over time) of 7.5% or higher, and be able to speak, read, and write in both English and Arabic. You also need a cell phone for text messages. The researchers want to see if this program improves your knowledge about diabetes and your health beliefs after 3 and 6 months.

Diabetes Knowledge Test (Diabetes Research and Training Center, University of Michigan, 2015) is a 23-item measure of diabetes knowledge, with general questions related to symptoms, self-management (e.g., diet, exercise, foot care, blood glucose monitoring, insulin), and complications (e.g., low, and high blood sugar). Greater scores indicate greater diabetes knowledge.
