Understanding Exercise Responses in Childhood Cancer Survivors

This study at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is looking at how young adult survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) feel about exercise. Researchers want to see if a special cognitive task, called the Personalized Single-Category Implicit Association Test (PSC-IAT), can accurately measure their feelings towards exercise. You would perform this cognitive task before and after a cardiovascular stress test, and then participate in an interview about your experiences. This study is for ALL survivors aged 18-39 who did not receive radiation to the brain and are not currently meeting physical activity guidelines. The main goal is to see if the PSC-IAT is a good tool to use in this group of survivors.

Study design
This is an observational study with a planned enrollment of 125 participants. It is not testing a new treatment, but rather observing and collecting information.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Participants enrolled in St. Jude Lifetime Cohort (SJLIFE) aged 18-39 years at completion of on campus visit
Primary diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)
No cranial radiation therapy (CRT) as part of treatment for ALL
Identify as physically inactive (do not meet Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines of 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week or 75 minutes of vigorous physical activity per week)
Women who are not currently pregnant

Exclusion

Individuals who cannot speak, read, and/or understand English.
Individuals with an estimated IQ of \<70 and/or per PI discretion
Individuals with any contraindication to stress testing (i.e. cardiovascular complications)
Women who are currently pregnant

    Participants' implicit associations with exercise will be measured using the Personalized Single-Category Implicit Association test (PSC-IAT).

    The Behavioral Regulation of Exercise Questionnaire (BREQ-2) will be administered once to participants in this study to assess trait-level affective motivation.
