Semaglutide for Brain Blood Flow in Type 2 Diabetes

This study is looking at how semaglutide affects blood flow in the brain and how easily substances can cross the blood-brain barrier (a protective layer around the brain) in people with Type 2 Diabetes. You might be able to join if you are 40-65 years old, have had Type 2 Diabetes for at least 3 years, and your HbA1C (a measure of blood sugar control) is between 7% and 10%. The study wants to see if semaglutide can improve brain blood flow and reduce the permeability of the blood-brain barrier. This could help us understand why semaglutide has been shown to reduce the risk of stroke in people with Type 2 Diabetes. The study is currently unclear on its recruitment status.

Study design
This is an interventional study where 50 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either semaglutide or a placebo (an inactive substance). Neither you nor the study staff will know which treatment you are receiving.

Magnetic resonance images (MRI) will be taken at the beginning of the study and again after about 12 months to measure brain blood flow and blood-brain barrier permeability.
