Yo-Yo Sleep and Cardiometabolic Health Study

This study is looking at how different sleep patterns affect your heart health and metabolism (how your body uses energy). Researchers want to see if having short sleep during the week, followed by longer "recovery" sleep on weekends (called Intermittent Short Sleep or ISS), impacts your health differently than getting enough sleep every night (Sustained Adequate Sleep or SAS). They are also exploring if keeping a consistent sleep schedule, even with short sleep, leads to better outcomes than shifting your sleep times (Social Jetlag or SJL). You might be able to join if you are between 18 and 49 years old, have a BMI between 20-29.9 kg/m2, and usually sleep 7-9 hours a night without aids or naps. The study will measure your fasting blood sugar, insulin levels, and blood pressure to see the effects. The current status of this study is unclear.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

Aged 18 to 49 years
BMI 20-29.9 kg/m2
Habitually sleeping 7-9 hours/night without sleep aids or naps

Exclusion

Sleep disorders
Psychiatric disorders (including eating disorders) and seasonal affective disorder
Pregnancy (current/prior year)
Breastfeeding
Smokers (Any cigarette smoking or ex-smokers \<3years)
Diabetes
Elevated blood pressure, taking beta-blockers
Individuals taking anti-coagulants or anti-platelets
Recent weight change or participation in a weight loss program or have ever had bariatric surgery or other weight loss or gastrointestinal procedure.
Travel across time zones; shift work (non-traditional hours)

    Insulin resistance will be assessed by measuring fasting plasma glucose levels.
