Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine for Parkinson's Disease Muscle Characteristics
This study is looking at how Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM), specifically a technique called Muscle Energy, affects leg muscles in people with Parkinson's disease (PD). Researchers want to see if OMM can improve muscle stiffness, how much you can move your joints (range of motion), and how you walk (gait). You might be able to join if you have a Parkinson's diagnosis, are between stages 2-4 on the Hoehn and Yahr Scale (a way to measure PD severity), can receive OMM, lie down for measurements, walk for gait tests, and have leg pain or gait issues due to PD. The study will measure changes in mechanical stress, dynamic stiffness, and step cycle time to see if the treatment is successful. The current recruitment status is unclear.
- Study design
- This is an interventional study planning to enroll 20 participants. You would be randomly assigned to either receive the OMM treatment or a sham (inactive) treatment.
- What's involved
- You would attend one in-person session at the NYIT Academic Health Care Center. During this visit, you'll have muscle stiffness and gait measured before and after treatment, and your range of motion tested. One week later, you'll complete a brief phone survey.
- Compensation
- Not stated in the trial record.
- Follow-up
- Measurements for primary endpoints are taken pre and post-intervention (1 hour). A follow-up survey is conducted one week after the visit.
