EMPOWER: Weight Loss and Exercise Post-stroke
This study, called EMPOWER, is looking at how a Lifestyle Management Program and POWER training (Post-stroke Optimization of Walking using Explosive Resistance) can help people who have had a stroke and are also overweight or obese. The Lifestyle Management Program uses dietitians, exercise physiologists, and psychologists to help with weight loss. POWER training involves 12 weeks of exercises like leg presses and jump training to improve walking. The study wants to see if these interventions improve physical function after 15 weeks. You might be able to join if you are 35-85 years old, had a stroke at least 6 months ago, have some weakness in your leg, can walk without help, and have a body mass index (BMI) greater than 25. The current status of this study is unclear.
