This study is looking at how changes in lifestyle, specifically less physical activity and more sugar-sweetened drinks, affect your body's ability to use sugar (insulin resistance) and regulate blood sugar. We want to see if these changes impact how your body breaks down fats and carbohydrates. You might be able to join if you are a recreationally active young adult, aged 18-30, with good heart and lung fitness. The study will compare different groups: some will reduce physical activity and drink sugary beverages, some will only reduce physical activity, and others will maintain high physical activity while drinking sugary beverages. The main goals are to see how these lifestyle changes affect insulin resistance, 24-hour blood sugar control, and fat burning after 10 days. The current recruitment status is unclear.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion

18-30 years of age
Recreationally active completing 75-150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous intensity exercise (\>2 days/week).
Fair cardiorespiratory fitness levels (Men: VO2\>38.4 ml/kg/min; Women: VO2\>32.6 ml/kg/min).

Exclusion

Hypertension (resting or diagnosed)
Impaired fasting blood glucose (\>100mg/dL)
Diagnosed cardiovascular disease
Diagnosed diabetes
Diagnosed cancer
Diagnosed chronic kidney disease
Diagnosed musculoskeletal disorders that prevents the individual from exercising on a bike.

    We will use HOMA-IR to measure changes in insulin resistance across the 4 study groups
