Combined Respiratory Training in Persons With ALS
This study is looking at how a combined respiratory muscle strength training program, called LVR+EMST (Lung Volume Recruitment and Expiratory Muscle Strength Training), affects people with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Researchers want to see if this daily 5-week training can improve cough strength and breathing, and also how it impacts shortness of breath (dyspnea) and problems with speaking or swallowing (bulbar impairment). They will also look at how it affects the quality of life for patients and their caregivers. You might be able to join if you are 18-90 years old, have probable or definite ALS diagnosed within the last two years, haven't used LVR or EMST before, and have reduced peak cough flow (how fast you can cough).
