Understanding How We Learn to Speak Better

This study is looking for healthy adults to help us understand how the brain learns and produces speech. We are testing different ways to improve speech motor learning, such as changing how much your speech varies, improving your ability to notice errors in your speech, and using visual feedback to help you connect what you hear with how you move your mouth. We also want to see how being more aware of your mouth movements affects speech learning. The main goal is to see how your speech changes when you hear errors. You can join if you are 18 or older, a native American English speaker, have normal hearing, and no history of communication, neurological, or psychological disorders. This study is currently unclear on its recruitment status.

Study design

18 years and older
native speaker of American English
normal (age-appropriate) binaural pure-tone hearing threshold
not taking medications affecting sensorimotor functioning
no current or history of communication, neurological, or psychological disorders

The investigators will measure how the participants' speech changes due to auditory errors experienced in previous trials.
