Percussive Massage for Muscle Preservation During Leg Immobilization
This study is looking at whether percussive massage can help prevent muscle loss and maintain muscle, blood vessel, and energy-producing cell (mitochondrial) function when a leg is immobilized. All participants will have their left leg immobilized in a brace for 10 days. One group will also receive 30 minutes of percussive massage twice a day during this time. Researchers will measure knee muscle strength, the size of a specific thigh muscle (vastus lateralis cross-sectional area), and how well muscle cells produce energy (skeletal muscle mitochondrial function) before and after the 10-day immobilization period. This study is for people aged 18 to 50 years old, and it is currently unclear if it is recruiting.
