This study is looking at whether metformin can help older adults recover muscle strength and size after a period of muscle disuse, like after an injury or illness. When we age, our bodies don't recover as well from muscle loss, which can lead to falls and loss of independence. Metformin is a drug that might help improve how our muscles recover. You would receive either metformin (500mg pills) or a placebo (an inactive pill). Researchers will measure the percentage of recovery of your thigh muscle volume after 14 days of single leg immobilization and 14 days of recovery. This study is for people aged 60 and older who are generally healthy and can walk independently. The current recruitment status is unclear.
