Optimizing the Floreciendo Workshop for Latina Teens and Female Caregivers

This study is testing different versions of a workshop called Floreciendo. This workshop helps Latina teens (ages 14-18) and their female caregivers (like mothers or grandmothers) learn about sexual and reproductive health. The goal is to find the best way to teach about preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies. We want to see if the workshop is easy to use and if people like the different parts of it. You might be able to join if you are a Latina teen between 14 and 18 years old, or a female caregiver of a Latina teen, and can speak English or Spanish. The study is looking for about 184 participants.

Study design
This is an interventional pilot study with an unclear status, involving about 184 participants. It uses a factorial trial design to test different combinations of the Floreciendo workshop components.

  • Feasibility of factorial trial designThrough study completion (anticipated 2.5 years)

Proportion of conditions implemented according to the randomization schedule (benchmark is at least 90%) (primary). We will also measure the proportion of teen-caregiver dyads who complete all sessions specified per their condition (benchmark is at least 80%), and proportion of teen-caregiver dyads who complete baseline assessments (benchmark is at least 80%) and follow-up assessments (benchmark is at least 80%).

  • Acceptability of intervention componentsImmediately after completing the intervention

Degree of satisfaction with the components of the Floreciendo workshop based on a measure of acceptability adapted from the mental health implementation science tool (mHIST), supplemented with qualitative feedback
