STEP Platform for Acute Ischemic Stroke

This study, called STEP, is for people who have had an acute ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blood clot) due to a blockage in a large or medium blood vessel in the brain. It compares different ways to treat these strokes. You might receive endovascular thrombectomy (a procedure to remove the clot using a device like a Neurovascular Mechanical Thrombectomy Device or a Catheter, Thrombus Retriever) or medical management (which can include medications like those for dissolving clots, antiplatelets, blood pressure, or cholesterol, and rehabilitation). The main goal is to see how these treatments affect your global disability 90 days after the stroke, using a measure called the Modified Rankin Score. This study is looking for 1600 participants aged 18 and older who are suspected of having this type of stroke. The current status of the study is unclear.
