Home-Based Exercise After LVAD Implantation

This study is looking at how a home-based exercise program using a smartphone app affects people who have recently received a HeartMate 3™ left ventricular assist device (LVAD), which is a pump that helps your heart. Researchers want to see if this exercise program can improve your physical activity, strength, and overall quality of life compared to usual care. You might be able to join if you are at least 18 years old, have recently had your first HeartMate 3™ LVAD implanted, can walk on your own, and own a smartphone with internet. The study will measure changes in your physical activity and capacity, like your step count and walking distance, after 6 months.

Study design
This interventional study plans to enroll 100 participants. You will be randomly assigned to either the exercise intervention group or the usual care group.

You will have baseline assessments including wearing an activity tracker, a six-minute walk test, frailty testing, surveys, and a CT scan. If in the exercise group, you'll have an initial training session and follow an individualized exercise plan.
