Diabetes Intervention for Low-Income Immigrants

This study is testing an intervention called "IDEAL" for Chinese immigrants in New York City who have Type 2 Diabetes (T2D). The IDEAL intervention combines short videos about managing diabetes (Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support, or DSMES) delivered by text message, with support from a Community Health Worker (CHW). The CHW helps participants find resources for challenges that affect their diabetes care. We want to see if this IDEAL intervention can improve blood sugar control, measured by Hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) test scores, compared to a control group that doesn't receive the intervention right away. You might be able to join if you are a Chinese immigrant between 18 and 70 years old, have T2D, and your most recent HbA1c was 8% or higher. The study aims to enroll 270 participants.

Study design
This study is interventional and will randomly assign participants to either the IDEAL intervention group or a wait-list control group. It plans to enroll 270 participants.
