Reducing Obesity Using Social Ties Program

This study, called the "Reducing Obesity Using Social Ties (ROBUST) Program," is testing a new way to help people lose weight. It's looking at whether including up to two friends, family members, or co-workers in a weight loss program helps the main participant lose more weight compared to someone who doesn't invite others. The study will compare a "Social Network Intervention" where you invite others, to an "Individual Lifestyle Intervention" which is a standard health coaching program. To join, you must be Black or Hispanic, 18 or older, have a BMI (Body Mass Index) over 30 kg/m2 (a measure of body fat), and be willing to use a food intake app. The study aims to see how many people attend coaching sessions and complete the study over 24 weeks.

This is an interventional study planning to enroll 264 participants. You would be randomly assigned to either the group that invites friends/family or the group that does not.
